Class & Colonialism: Settlers Reading Group

December 18 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Running on the last Monday of the month at 7pm.

Join friends as we read through Settlers: The Mythology of the White Proletariat from Mayflower to Modern. In light of the rise of violent reactionary movements, it is a good time to reflect on the legacies of colonialism and the complicity of our communities in the ongoing oppression of Indigenous and POC folks. Come read up with us. And also there will probably be snacks.

For the next group which will take place on October 30th at 7pm
Please read:

Chapter 9 (Neo-Colonial Pacification in the U.S)
Chapter 10 (1950’s Repression and the Decline of the Communist Party USA)
Chapter 11 (This Great Humanity Has Cried “Enough!”)

These can both be found here: http://readsettlers.org/

The facilitator for this group is Jaydene Lavallie – a two-spirit
Michif-Cree anarchist based in Hamilton. Jaydene uses she/her pronouns. Though this book is based on US history, she will strive to weave in discussion based on parallels to Canadian colonial history. To the extent possible, this group looks to have discussion in accessible and common language.
