The ZAD (”Zone to Defend”) in western France is a sprawling 4000 acre constellation of fields, barricades, forests, swamps, and communal farms that have physically blockaded the construction of an airport for nearly a decade. In the 70’s, there was a group of prisoners who successfully flipped the culture within Walla Walla prison where rape and ownership over queer/trans prisoners went from being a power and status symbol to a reason to fear for your life. This group was called Men Against Sexism (MAS), who were made up of almost entirely queer and trans prisoners.
